Apple held a presentation at WWDC, its annual developer conference. As expected, the new iOS 12 with a number of improvements is presented. The software update is waiting for the Apple Watch, but it will be available later. However, there were other announcements that will be of interest to users of Mac computers and Apple TV.
During the traditional presentation held by Apple at WWDC, the company presented a lot of new and interesting things. The announcements were considered in more detail by the resource the Verge. What is the most significant of Apple’s presentation?
First of all, I saw the light of iOS 12 with new augmented reality features, improvements relating to photos, and many other additional features. Presented ARKit 2 and new Shortcuts to help Siri perform tasks for the user, such as ordering coffee, for example.
iOS 12 allows you to measure real-world objects. The Photos app gives you the opportunity to share recommendations with those people who have been found in the photo. Much of this was previously in Google Photos, but now these features have become features of iOS 12.
CarPlay is enhanced with support for third-party map applications, including Google Maps and Waze. FaceTime will be able to communicate with up to 32 people at a time. Integrate with the Messages app-enabled sets, stickers, Animoji and Screen Time.
Among the performance improvements iOS 12 – increased by 40% the speed of loading applications, increasing the speed of keyboards by 50%. And the camera opens on older devices 70% faster. A free upgrade to iOS 12 iPad and iPhone devices will be provided “by air” or via iTunes.
iBooks were affected by the redesign. The new Apple Books branding is displayed in iOS 12.
Memoji will give the user the opportunity to create Animoji. Now in iOS 12, you can group notifications like those already available to Android users.
The watchOS 5 update for Apple Watch will be released in the fall
The popular Apple Watch smart watches will receive the watchOS 5 software update. It includes new fitness tracking features, as well as on-screen time limits, as provided in iOS 12 for iPhone and iPad.
WatchOS 5 provides a new way to communicate between Apple Watch users that works like a walkie-talkie. By pressing the button on the side, it will be possible to speak and another user will hear.
Siri information on the screen is expanded-there are sports, maps and heart rate data. There are also Shortcuts, which are typical for the new iOS 12. As noted by Apple, the watch will be supported by third-party applications. You don’t have to say “Hey Siri” to “Wake up” Siri — just raise your hand and talk.
Notifications are also improved — the user will be able to reply to messages and sort them directly on the smartwatch screen.
Moreover, Apple has added the ability to view some web pages directly from the clock. This feature is implemented thanks to the support of the new WebKit. The company notes that the pages being viewed will be optimized for the small screen of the Apple Watch.
In addition to the above, there will be a new Podcasts application, the possibility of background audio playback and a customizable Control Center.
In 2019, developers will be able to easily migrate their iOS applications to the macOS platform. Apple has already tested its new frameworks on the News, Stocks, Voice Memos and Home applications, which were introduced by the company together in the Mojave version. They are transferred to the computer platform iOS-applications.
According to Apple, cross-platform migration is carried out by integrating elements of uikit frameworks for iOS directly into macOS. They are now present in the operating system along with the AppKit framework that was previously used in the Mac platform. However, this functionality is still being developed.
Mac App Store in macOS 10.14 Mojave finally got a new design similar to the App Store design introduced with iOS 11. The Mac App Store has a number of new applications, including Microsoft Office 365, Adobe Lightroom CC, Panic Transmit, and Bare Bones BBEdit.
